Quakers Testifying to the Truth

George Fox (1624-1691), Epistle 264, 1669
AND such Testimonies of Friends, as are deceased, let them be Recorded, that so the Testimony of the Lord through his Servants may not be lost, that he raised up his People, for the same they were carried on thro' great Tribulations and Sufferings; and many laid down their Lives, and had their Goods spoiled, and they persecuted to Death to keep up their Testimony (which the Lord moved them to speak by his Spirit) to future Generations: So that those Words, that they were moved to speak forth by the Power, may not be lost; that the Power and Spirit of the Lord may be exalted. . . . And so be Diligent, and those that can write, help them that cannot: This may be easily done.

"Proceed as way opens" by Quaker Jane
Discernment requires trusting that God has a will for thee,
that thee can learn what God's will for thee is, and that then thee can be obedient.
The way to Discern God's will is to Quiet the self.
This Quieting of the self leads to Patience.
Once God's will has been discerned, Obedience to God's will leads to Peace.
Being able to subsume thy will to God's will leads to Serenity.
Then what is Right and Necessary will be brightly illuminated before thee,
and what is neither needful nor necessary will simply fade from thee.
Then thy life will preach and thee will be freed to Testify to the Truth.
Any Testimony to the Truth requires Love.
What Love requires in Truth will be thy Living Testimony.

Epistle 257
1668

"Sitting Nodding"

(Let this be read in all your Meetings.)

And so, every one go seek the lost Sheep, and bring him home on your backs to the Fold, and there will be more joy of ...
